Bodham and Beckham Good Neighbour Support GroupFor support or help please contact: Mel Clarke Tel: 01263 588 840 Whatsapp or Text: 07884 365 192 Email: melclarke58@gmail.com At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic the Good Neighbour Support Group was formed. It was put in place to help those in the villages who needed support with everyday things like shopping, collecting prescriptions or just a listening ear. It has been extremely successful and as of 31st December 2020 our team of volunteers have completed in excess of 400 jobs. It allowed those in the village, especially the vulnerable, to be kept safe from the virus. It is the intention of the group to keep going indefinitely, as during the course of the pandemic we have discovered people within our villages who need help and support all of the time, not just during lock down and restrictions. Our thanks go to those who voluntarily put themselves at risk, to ensure the safety of our villages. At the beginning of the lock down, way back in March, I put a call out for donations of cotton material and wool to make desperately needed PPE.
The first donations were used to make Scrubs Hats, Ear Guards, Covid Heart Pairs and Laundry bags. As at 31st December we have completed 48 Scrub Hats, 1090 Ear Guards, 1505 Pairs of Covid Hearts and 119 Laundry Bags. Next there was a shout out from Norfolk Scrubs for sewers to make PPE Standard Scrubs sets with Laundry Bags. and as at 31st December 2020 I have been able to complete 6 Scrub Tunics and 118 full sets with another 12 in the process and another villager Georgie has made 2 sets. This will fulfill all the requests for scrubs that I have received at the moment, but requests continue to come in. Again, all sets have been made by donations from the villages which is outstanding. Lastly, the call went out for face coverings and so the new phase began. In the beginning it was only adult masks, but then we were asked to make child friendly ones for children visiting medical facilities or sick parents. Again, as at 31st December we have made a total of 888 face masks. Throughout the year we had also been asked for blankets for Care Homes and Premature baby items as there was a desperate need for them. Again the villagers answered the call and got out their crochet hooks and knitting needles. We have supplied 82 premature baby sets and blankets and 24 full size blankets for care homes. We have been lucky enough to have been given a couple of awards for our efforts. We also need to say a huge thank you to the Post Van which has been a great help with getting the items out.
